 1 CHIPS, the Clearing House Interbank Payments System, is operated by The Clearing House Payments Company L.L.C.. 2 Fedwire Funds Service is operated by the Federal Reserve. 3 The Federal Reserve Payment Study estimated the number of cheques paid in 2012 and 2015; figures for other years are derived from those estimates. 4 The Federal Reserve Payment Study estimated the number of cheques paid in 2012, 2015 and 2018; figures for other years are derived from those estimates. "Total gross volume" calculated as total cheque volume less volume of Federal Reserve cheque clearing and volume of on-us cheques. 5 EPN is operated by The Clearing House Payments Company L.L.C.. "Total gross volume" represents transactions originated on EPN, and includes transfers sent by EPN to FedACH for transmission to the receiving depository institution. The volume of these transfers, expressed in millions, was 3,234.8 in 2013, 3,240.3 in 2014, 3,338.0 in 2015, and 3,475.1 in 2016, 3,704.6 in 2017, and 3,241.8 in 2018. 6 FedACH is operated by the Federal Reserve. "Total gross volume" represents transactions originated on FedACH, and includes transfers sent by FedACH to EPN for transmission to the receiving depository institution. The volume of these transfers, expressed in millions, was 1,249.6 in 2013, 1,308.0 in 2014, 1,431.8 in 2015, 1,562.0 in 2016, and 1,716.1 in 2017, and 2,565.571 in 2018. 7 RTP is a owned and operated by The Clearing House L.L.C..
